Hand wash only -- not machine washable. Learned the hard way.Jul 12, 2009 Made the mistake of throwing this in the washing machine and dryer and rendered hat completely unusable. Had to throw it out. Yes, the tag does say hand-wash cold water only. For me, this is a dealbreaker with little kids. Find a hat you can throw in the wash.
Great Hat!Jun 03, 2009 This is the best hat for our 19 month old. The brim is so big that it provides nice shade not only for his face, but his arms as well. We have gotten so many compliments on the hat when we are out and about... he is soooo cute! We are going to buy another one to keep in the car so we never forget it. The hat is lightweight enough that our son doesn't seem to mind wearing it... too much. Great Hat!
It actually stays on!Apr 24, 2009 My husband and I planned a trip to Florida during my April vacation from teaching. Our 13 month old son is between walking and crawling, so he's very mobile and naturally made us worried about sunburn. We got the hat about a week before we left so I tried "training" him to wear it on several occasions. The three hats I had purchased, or received as gifts, were not to his liking. There was no lag time between placing it on his head, his ripping it off and throwing it across the room. However when we got to Florida it took one fight session of getting it on him and us cheering in the middle of the Naples Zoo like overly-enthusiastic dorks, for him to leave it on! Now no fights! He has an enormous head so the 2-5 year old size is wonderful. The adjusting strap is easy to use! The wide brim even provides shade on his arms. The neck protecting flap in the back is broad and round so it doesn't create that "hat-mullet" that a lot of other baby hats create (I was afraid of that look). We've gotten compliments on the hat everyday of our vacation so far. Definitely worth the money I paid!
LightweightApr 01, 2009 Originally gave this 2-stars as I was disappointed with how light it was and how cheap it looked. Now that I have used it, I find the lightness a plus and it actually looks more "chic" than "cheap". It takes up so little space when scrunched up in my diaper bag. Yet, it holds its shape. My daughter is not used to wearing a hat so it does not stay on for long. I do like the strap with a buckle to make sure we don't lose it. Overall, I have misjudged this hat. It is made of quality material and provides excellent sun protection if your child does not pull it off.
Now, I would give it 4-stars if Amazon would let me change my rating!

Pros
- light.
- functional.
- excellent protection from harmful rays.
Cons
- overpriced at $20+ plus shipping.
- even though the size says "6mths to 2yrs", it still seems large for my 13-month daughter who is 90th percentile in height and 50th percentile in weight. Having said that, there is elastic at the back to hold the hat in place. There is also an adjustable strap with a buckle which is a nice feature.
Conclusion
- try it before you buy.
- I would recommend it if you want your child to be protected but if your child is too young, she or he might want to pull it off.
a must have hat for an infant..Aug 31, 2008 My boy is 3 month old and we were in FL for 3 weeks and this hat was very helpful. The fabric is very thin and breathable, he didn't sweat once !
